Farewell to Nigg
The Blog Part:
In which I pull 100 poses (both sensible and silly… though mainly silly) to commemorate reaching 100,000 total views on YouTube.
The Tune Part:
‘Farewell to Nigg’ was composed by Duncan Johnstone, a Glasgow born piper who was a prolific composer for the instrument. He composed over 60 tunes of which ‘Farewell to Nigg’ is one of his best known. In 1996 Duncan was awarded the Balvenie Medal by Messrs William Grant & Sons as recognition of his lifetime commitment to piping.

Bulgarian Red
The Blog Part:
In which I have a little moan about upcoming exams and essay writing
The Tune Part:
‘Bulgarian Red’ was composed by fiddler Charlie McKerron, famous for his work with popular folk band Capercaillie. Having been brought up with traditional fiddle music Charlie started his own record label (RAJ Records) and mobile recording studio to concentrate on more fiddle based projects. He is currently part of the band ‘Session A9’ otherwise known as the “Scottish Super Group”.

Billy’s Jig:
The Blog Part:
In which my housemate Bev and I take a trip to IKEA. What shenanigans shall we get up to?!
The Tune Part:
‘Billy’s Jig’ composed by John McCusker for Billy Connolly’s ‘World Tour of New Zealand’ for which he composed the entire sound track. Some of John’s most memorable tunes can be found on this fantastic album.
Think this is worth a second day in the spotlight…
Fiddler’s Blog:
This episode I bring you TWO ‘Fiddler’s Blog’ firsts; A guest artist and not one but two new tunes. I went over to Glasgow to meet Scottish fiddler Mike Vass, he was nice enough to do a blog with me.
Mike, originally from Nairn started playing the Fiddle at the age of 8 and in recent years has performed around the country; as lead of Scottish song band, Malinky; as a duo with pianist and twin sister Ali; and with international super group ‘Fiddle Rendezvous’.

Miss Sarah Drummond of Perth
THIS WAS FILMED ON MY PHONE, PLEASE EXCUSE THE PICTURE QUALITY.
‘Miss Sarah Drummond of Perth’ is credited often to Niel Gow, however it was published as part of Malcolm MacDonald’s 2nd collection in 1789, which predates Gow’s first publication of it in 1807.
The Drummonds were a noble family of Gow’s home county of Perthshire, loyal to the Jacobite cause for which several of the family died for or were exiled. Clementina Sarah Drummond (1786-1865) was the only surviving child and heir of James Drummond (d. 1800), the first Lord Perth.

Trip to Miriam’s
‘Trip to Miriam’s’ was composed by Colin Farrell, a Manchester born fiddler and whistler of Irish family. He was taught fiddle by Paddy McMahon and whistle by none other than Michael McGoldrick. He now performs in Orlando, Florida as part of the band ‘Creel’ in the popular Irish pub in Downtown Disney.
